A fire alarm system detects signs of fire and transmits alarm information. Its installation requirements and linked functions follow the fire safety design for the particular building. The operator arranges the required inspections, functional tests and records.
Integration with building systems
In case of an alarm, the EPS not only triggers signaling, but can also actively control the building's related systems:
- Controls ventilation according to the building’s fire safety scenario.
- May release locks on designated escape routes.
- Where the required connection is in place, transmits an alarm to the fire service monitoring centre.
Role of physical security
Trained staff respond to an alarm according to the documentation, fire instructions and system configuration. Acknowledging the alarm, checking the situation and calling for assistance are separate steps. Their sequence and time limits must match the particular building and connection conditions; there is no single time limit for every building.
